Pirate Party Belgium is part of a global pan-european Pirate movement seeking to promote free access to culture, knowledge and society.
As such the Pirate Party tries to bring a up-to-date way of thinking to belgian politics in general.
Pirate Party Belgium represents a modern outlook on society willing to reform for the current state of knowledge, expression and technology, and its influence on everything in todays society from communication, enterprise, public administration and creative culture.
Pirate Party Belgium was refounded in June 2009 following European elections. This after a first failed trial in 2006.

History
The first Pirate Party (Piratpartiet) was formed in Sweden in 2006 and inspired the growth of Pirate Parties all over Europe, and then the rest of the world.
The international Pirate Party movement made great advances in 2009 when the Swedish Piratpartiet gained a first seat in the European Parliament.
A second seat came with the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon in December 2009.
